Parrot fish can create up to 1100 pounds of sand.

Horseshoe Crab

Today the students spent the day taking a closer look at Horseshoe Crabs with Mr. Conroy.

Horseshoe crabs are among the world's oldest and most fascinating creatures.  The earliest horseshoe crab species had already inhabited Earth for at least 100 million years before the dinosaurs arrived about 200 million years ago.

Students were asked to observe and investigate the body of the crab

There are three divisions to the body of the horseshoe crab: the prosoma , the opisthosoma, and the telson. These are sometimes referred to as the cephalothorax, the abdomen, and the tail. 

Measuring the shell tells you the age of the horseshoe crab

The horseshoe crab plays a vital role in the life of anyone who has received an injectable medication. An extract of the horseshoe crab's blood is used by the pharmaceutical and medical device industries.
